Ghost Text

Privacy Policy

In short

Ghost Text collects anonymous usage statistics, crash reports and a record of your purchase. It shows an ad only when you ask for one and does not sell your data.

No account

Ghost Text has no sign-up and no login. What you do in the app is stored on your phone and is removed when you uninstall the app.

Usage statistics

The app uses Google Analytics for Firebase to count anonymous events such as which screens are opened and which buttons are used, together with general device information (model, operating system version, country, language) and an app installation ID, and your device's advertising ID. We use this only to understand how the app is used and to improve it.

Crash reports

When the app crashes, Firebase Crashlytics sends a report with the state of the app, the device model and operating system version, and an installation ID, so the fault can be fixed.

Purchases

Purchases are made through Google Play. RevenueCat, our purchase provider, receives an anonymous app user ID and the purchase record so that your purchase can be confirmed and restored. We never see your payment details.

Rewarded ads

The app never shows an ad on its own. If you choose to watch one to unlock something, the ad is served by Google AdMob. To deliver the ad, measure it and prevent fraud, AdMob receives your IP address (from which a general location can be estimated), device information, an app-scoped identifier and how you interacted with the ad. AdMob also receives your device's advertising ID and may show ads based on your interests where the law allows it and, in the European Economic Area and the UK, only if you agree in the consent form. You can reset or delete the advertising ID in your phone's settings. The app asks only for ads rated suitable for teens.

Google uses this data under its own privacy policy. If you do not watch an ad, none of it is sent.

Your conversation

What you write to a spirit, what it answers and how far each story has come are stored on your device only. You can delete them at any time in Settings with "Reset the chat", and the finished stories with "Delete the archive"; uninstalling the app removes everything.

To understand what you write, each message is sent to our server and passed to a text classification service (TypeSafe), which says what the message is about, for example a question about the spirit's name, and whether it sounds like someone in crisis. The message is sent with the app's language and a random install ID made on your phone for rate limiting, never with your name or an account. It is not stored or logged by us, and it is never part of analytics. When the server cannot be reached, word lists inside the app do the same on your device.

Every reply the spirit gives is written in advance by us; the service only classifies your message and never writes a reply.

If a message sounds like someone in crisis, the story pauses and the app shows a support screen with a link to a crisis service in your country where we have checked one, and to an international helpline directory. The country comes from your phone's region setting, never from your location.

Notifications

Notifications are optional and off until you turn them on. They are scheduled on your device, at most one a day, only when a story has something new. By default the lock screen shows that there is a message but not what it says.

Who processes the data

These providers process the data on our behalf: Google (Firebase): privacy policy; RevenueCat: privacy policy; Google (AdMob), only when you watch an ad: privacy policy.

Retention and your choices

Analytics data is kept by Google for up to 14 months and crash reports for 90 days. To ask what is held about your installation or to have it deleted, write to contact@bytelunalabs.com.

Children

Ghost Text is not directed at children under 13.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version is published on this page with a new date.
