StepNest — Privacy Policy

Last updated: 20 June 2026

StepNest (“the app”, “we”) is a privacy-first step tracker. This policy explains what data the app handles and why. StepNest is designed to work fully on your device; cloud features are optional and secondary.

1. What StepNest is

StepNest counts your steps using your phone’s built-in step-counter sensor (Android TYPE_STEP_COUNTER). It does not use GPS or location, and does not connect to any health platform. It is a daily-movement and habit tracker, not a medical, fitness-coaching, or weight-loss product.

2. Data stored on your device

Distance, calories, and active minutes are estimates derived from your step count and are shown as estimates only.

3. Optional cloud features

If you use the social features (global races, friend rooms, leaderboards), the app uses Google Firebase to sign you in anonymously by default and to sync the data needed for those features:

If you sign in with Google, your basic Google account name/photo may be used as your profile. We do not upload your raw sensor data, your location (we collect none), or your weight.

4. Notifications

With your permission, StepNest sends local reminders (e.g. a daily goal reminder you schedule). We may also send occasional re-engagement notifications via Firebase Cloud Messaging. These do not contain your step data.

5. Analytics & crash reporting

We use Firebase Analytics to understand aggregate, non-identifying usage (for example, how often the app is opened and how features are used) so we can improve the product.

We also use Firebase Crashlytics to receive automatic crash reports when the app stops unexpectedly. These reports include technical diagnostic information (such as the type of crash, device model, operating-system version, and app state at the time) so we can find and fix bugs. They do not include your step data, location, or weight.

6. Purchases

Premium purchases (one-time “Lifetime”, or optional monthly/yearly subscriptions) are processed by Google Play Billing and managed through RevenueCat, which validates your purchase and entitlement. We do not receive or store your full payment card details. Subscriptions can be managed or cancelled at any time in your Google Play account.

7. Permissions we request

We do not request location, contacts, microphone, or camera (a photo, if added, is chosen by you from your gallery).

8. Sharing & selling

We do not sell your personal data. Your core experience — the home step dashboard — is ad-free and will stay that way. If we ever introduce ads on other screens, we will update this policy and our Google Play Data safety listing before doing so. Data is shared only with the service providers above (Google Firebase, Google Play, RevenueCat) strictly to provide the features described.

9. Data retention & deletion

Local data stays on your device until you delete the app or clear its data. For cloud data tied to an account, you can delete it yourself in the app — open Settings, find your profile card, and tap Delete my data; this removes your account and the associated cloud records and resets the local data on the device. You may also request deletion by emailing us and we will remove the associated records. See our data-deletion page for details.

10. Children

StepNest is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country) and we do not knowingly collect their data.

11. Changes

We may update this policy; the “Last updated” date above will change accordingly.
