Earth Alerts collects anonymous usage statistics, crash reports and a record of your purchase. It shows no ads and does not sell your data.
Earth Alerts has no sign-up and no login. What you do in the app is stored on your phone and is removed when you uninstall the app.
If you allow it, the app reads your approximate location on the phone to show distances to events and the sky passes above you. When you create a place from your location, only that place is saved; it leaves the phone rounded to about 3 km, and your location is not tracked and is never read in the background.
The app uses Google Analytics for Firebase to count anonymous events such as which screens are opened and which buttons are used, together with general device information (model, operating system version, country, language) and an app installation ID. It does not use the advertising ID. We use this only to understand how the app is used and to improve it.
When the app crashes, Firebase Crashlytics sends a report with the state of the app, the device model and operating system version, and an installation ID, so the fault can be fixed.
Purchases are made through Google Play. RevenueCat, our purchase provider, receives an anonymous app user ID and the purchase record so that your purchase can be confirmed and restored. We never see your payment details.
To send you alerts, the app sends our alert server (Cloudflare) the places you follow (each rounded to about 3 km, with its radius and the kinds of events you chose), your alert and quiet-hour settings, your language, whether you have Pro, a random device ID and the push token that Google Firebase Cloud Messaging gives the app. Nothing else is sent, and none of it is linked to your name or account.
The server uses these places for two things only: to send you alerts, and to return the past events in them to your phone for the History screen (asked with your device ID and its secret, so only your phone can read them). They are used for nothing else.
You can remove this copy at any time in Settings, under Delete all data. It is also deleted automatically when the push token stops working after you uninstall the app, or after 120 days without contact.
The sky view can show the camera image behind the satellite markers. The image stays on the phone; nothing is recorded, saved or sent.
Map images come from NASA GIBS, and the optional News layer is loaded from the GDELT Project. These services see your IP address like any website does; the app sends them no other information about you. Links to articles open the publisher's website in your browser.
These providers process the data on our behalf: Google (Firebase): privacy policy; RevenueCat: privacy policy.
Analytics data is kept by Google for up to 14 months and crash reports for 90 days, then deleted. It is tied to a random installation ID, not to your name or account, so we cannot look up or remove one person's data on request. Uninstalling the app stops all collection; a new installation gets a new ID. Questions: contact@bytelunalabs.com.
Earth Alerts is not directed at children under 13.
If this policy changes, the new version is published on this page with a new date.
